The Duomo of Milan

Not seeing the Duomo means not seeing Milan

Each place has its own landmark, and the Madonnina statue on the top of the Duomo of Milan is certainly one of the icons that Italians and foreigners immediately associate with our city.

This is why it is highly recommended to choose Hotel Canada as your 3 star hotel in Milan: it will take you just 10 minutes to walk there and take the best photos of your weekend or stay in Milan.  .

The Duomo of Milan

The history of the Duomo of Milan, the Cathedral dedicated to Santa Maria Nascente (St. Mary coming into the world), encompasses millenniums, it is therefore impossible to summarize it in one page.  Just think that, according to historians, its origins date back to the 4th century AD.

The several "religion" stages the city endured, especially according to political domination, carried changes involving art and ideas.

At present, thanks to ungoing restoration and maintenance works carried out by the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo organization, it represents Milano throughout the world and has achieved the standing of true World Heritage.

A couple figures

The most accurate picture of the Duomo of Milan, and of its grandeur, probabily emerges from the data published on its official Website:

  • 158.50 m - Duomo external length
  • 93 m - External width
  • 11,700 sq m internal surface
